July 2010 update

July 2010, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Every time we travel, we are always concerned that we will be able to make our connections and that our baggage will arrive at the final destination. Our flight from Vancouver to Phnom Penh was delayed which meant we had to run in Hong Kong. However, thanks to the many prayers of you dear friends and family, everything turned out all right.
Our final few months in Canada were quite a blur of packing and last minute things. It was wonderful to get together with those who will pray for us; we are so grateful for your support. We accomplished all the goals we set for our year in Canada, and feel it was a big success.

It was such a joy to worship at Tum Nup Tuk church on our first Sunday back in Cambodia. The building is beautiful with a prominent cross that protrudes above the trees and other roof tops of the community. We are so grateful to all those who had a part in establishing this fortress in a dark city. The board had put off the dedication until 28 August, in order that we could be here to celebrate with them.
We hit the ground running as usual, getting our house set up and livable just before Field Forum in Kompong Saom. It was nice to have that time to be with our colleagues and get caught up on what is going on here in Cambodia. A wonderful team from Colorado Springs ministered to us for the week at the beach. God even gave us beautiful weather.

Upon our return to the city, we were thrown into the hectic activities of English Camp 8. There were 35 trainers who arrived at various times over three days and needed to be settled into their Guest House. Then the venue was cleaned and the 19th we started with nearly 100 Khmer kids. Each day was filled with worship, testimonies, games, meals and outings. Some great relationships were forged during the week and we look forward to developing them further throughout the year. “Do we have to leave?” and “I can’t wait until next year” were common remarks among students and trainers alike. We give glory to God for helping pull this off as we often felt overwhelmed.
We are blessed to have a reliable internet connection 24/7 from our house which allows us to keep close to Jesse in Toronto and Stephanie in Abbotsford. Both of them are doing fine. Thank you for your continued prayers for them as they determine God’s will for their lives.
Patti is finding her niche in her position as Dorm Ministry Coordinator. It is slightly complicated as the leader of the men’s dorm is getting married and must resign. She is working with the board to determine his replacement. We need God’s direction on this and ask you to keep this before the throne with us. David is meeting with the Nearedei district leaders to fine tune his involvement in training & strengthening leadership. The District Superintendent is now Pastor Saul from TNT which is a huge plus as we live five minutes apart and have a long standing relationship. Pray that we will have unity is deciding what is right for the church at this point in time.
The financial situation of the “Global Advance Fund” is grave and we implore you to continue to send your donations as it covers our rent, travel and living allowances. A gift to the “Cambodian Student Centre – Cambodia” allows us to house and train university students for church leadership.
